{"id":1511,"date":"2011-03-08T18:28:12","date_gmt":"2011-03-09T00:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/?p=1511"},"modified":"2011-03-10T16:20:32","modified_gmt":"2011-03-10T22:20:32","slug":"sermon-follow-up-dying-to-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/2011\/03\/sermon-follow-up-dying-to-live\/","title":{"rendered":"Sermon Follow-up: &#8220;Dying to Live&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Sunday&#8217;s message, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/messages\/Date\/MAR_06_2011.php\">Dying to Live,<\/a>&#8221; Ryan preached from Colossians 3:5-11 to show us how gospel realities work to transform very specific sins. After Paul exhorts us to &#8220;put to death therefore what is earthly in [us]&#8221; (3:5), he tells us what that kinds of things he has in mind: &#8220;sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness&#8230;anger, wrath, malice, sander, and obscene talk&#8221; (3:5-8).<\/p>\n<p>During the course of his sermon, Ryan quoted from John Owen&#8217;s work,\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1581346492\/desesprichur-20\"><em>The Mortification of Sin<\/em><\/a>, which was originally a series of sermons delivered to Oxford students in 1656. These sermons were an exposition of Paul&#8217;s words in Romans 8:13, when he gave a similar exhortation.
