{"id":2799,"date":"2012-02-08T22:41:41","date_gmt":"2012-02-09T04:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/?p=2799"},"modified":"2012-02-08T22:41:41","modified_gmt":"2012-02-09T04:41:41","slug":"what-is-sin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/2012\/02\/what-is-sin\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Sin?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Jeremiah 2:13, God describes the sin of His people this way: &#8220;My people have committed two evils:\u00c2\u00a0they have forsaken me,\u00c2\u00a0the fountain of living waters,\u00c2\u00a0and hewed out cisterns for themselves,\u00c2\u00a0broken cisterns that can hold no water.&#8221; Sin is not only that we do wrong, but that we are wrong at the deepest levels of our existence. We are not just imperfect, but morally and spiritually insane. Ultimately, our problem with sin is a problem with with God.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a helpful definition of sin by pastor,\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Let-Nations-Be-Glad-2nd\/dp\/080102613X\/desesprichur-20\">John Piper<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What is sin?<br \/>\nIt is the glory of God not honored.<br \/>\nThe holiness of God not reverenced.<br \/>\nThe greatness of God not admired.<br \/>\nThe power of God not praised.<br \/>\nThe truth of God not sought.<br \/>\nThe wisdom of God not esteemed.<br \/>\nThe beauty of God not treasured.<br \/>\nThe goodness of God not savored.<br \/>\nThe faithfulness of God not trusted.<br \/>\nThe commandments of God not obeyed.<br \/>\nThe justice of God not respected.<br \/>\nThe wrath of God not feared.<br \/>\nThe grace of God not cherished.<br \/>\nThe presence of God not prized.<br \/>\nThe person of God not loved.<br \/>\nThat is sin.<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u201dJohn Piper,\u00c2\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Let-Nations-Be-Glad-2nd\/dp\/080102613X\/desesprichur-20\">Let The Nations Be Glad: The\u00c2\u00a0Supremacy\u00c2\u00a0of God in Missions<\/a><\/em>, 206<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As we grow in our Christian life we grow in our understanding of how great a problem the problem of sin really is.
