{"id":4094,"date":"2013-03-06T18:19:09","date_gmt":"2013-03-07T00:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/?p=4094"},"modified":"2013-03-06T18:19:09","modified_gmt":"2013-03-07T00:19:09","slug":"we-dont-drift-toward-holiness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/we-dont-drift-toward-holiness\/","title":{"rendered":"We Don&#8217;t Drift Toward Holiness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Sunday&#8217;s sermon, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/messages\/Date\/MAR_03_2013.php\">Living Out a New Identity<\/a>,&#8221; we considered Peter&#8217;s words when he wrote in 1 Peter 1:15, &#8220;as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In his devotional book,\u00c2\u00a0<em id=\"__mceDel\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/For-Love-God-Volume-Discovering\/dp\/1581348169\/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_y\/desesprichur-20\"><em>For the Love of God<\/em>, Volume 2<\/a>,<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0D.A. Carson makes this insightful observation about Christians and holiness:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith.
