{"id":961,"date":"2010-09-16T18:11:52","date_gmt":"2010-09-17T00:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/?p=961"},"modified":"2010-09-16T18:11:52","modified_gmt":"2010-09-17T00:11:52","slug":"colossians-christ-is-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/2010\/09\/colossians-christ-is-all\/","title":{"rendered":"Colossians: Christ is All"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Sunday begins our new sermon series through the book of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esvstudybible.org\/search?q=col\">Colossians<\/a>. Ryan will preach an introduction and overview of the book, helping us to zero in on its central theme: The preeminence of Christ. That&#8217;s not a word we use very often&#8230;<em>preeminence<\/em>, that is. But this is not an altogether bad thing. Good words that are over used or improperly used are slowly emptied of the weight of their meaning. When we use the word <em>preeminence<\/em>, we can think of Christ as he is described in this central portion of the first chapter of Colossians:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities\u00e2\u20ac\u201dall things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be <strong>preeminent<\/strong>. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.\u00c2\u00a0(Colossians 1:15-20 ESV)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Christ created all things, he is before all things, in him all things hold together and through him God is reconciling his church and all things to himself. By God&#8217;s grace, we will come to know Christ better for who he is as a result of our time in this book.<\/p>\n<p>By way of reminder,\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/ministries\/community_groups\/\">Community Groups<\/a> discuss and apply the sermon when they meet throughout the week in various homes.
