Update on DTS and Translation Workshop

2015 | by Clint | Category: Missionary Care,Rabinal Achi

Rodrigo and Carol Barrera, our dear friends, missionaries, and partners of DSC, send an update on DTS and the Translation Workshop:

Daniel wrote that the DTS team had a profitable outreach in Belize.DTC1After Belize, the team returned to minister to the students of the Baptist School in San Miguel Chicaj.DTC2From Kathi on May 13th: “Hi, Carol. This week we have been working at the Baptist High School, a number of whom prayed to turn their lives over to Jesus. We had some very candid and straight forward talks with the kids, challenging them to really think about where they’re headed, and that ideas and actions have consequences, and the decisions they make now will affect them for the rest of their lives.” The DTS team is now on the shores of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, where they will be this week and next week working with a Tzutujil church (another Mayan language), while Kathi is in Mexico for an annual international WYAM conference.DTC3This past Monday (May 18th) the AECM Mayan translators working on Old Testaments in their languages met in Guatemala City for two-week checking sessions on the book of II Kings. They face a lot of challenges! (This includes the Achí team, with whom I am working via the Internet.) Esther wrote me that a young man from San Miguel has been a big help in the past workshop and now in this one, answering the questions the consultant asks him about the translation. This is one stage in the checking–seeing how a person who hasn’t worked on the translation understands it. You are a vital link as you pray for these Mayan Achí ministries. Thank you! ¡Gracias! ¡Maltiox! Carol

P.S.  No, we are not in Guatemala. Our residency application seems to be stalled. Planning on writing to a Wyoming senator or representative in Washington to see if that will help the process.
