SNAP 2012 Survey Trip Report #1

2012 | by Clint | Category: Church Planting,Field Updates,Global,Trips

Our first SNAP couple, along with a DSC elder, his wife, and one deacon, just returned this past Saturday from their 10 day survey trip to North Africa.  While in country they were able to meet with Christian workers and church planters, and to pray about and consider what strategies and cities the SNAP team will aim for in the coming years.

DSC Deacon Greg Dart had this to say about the trip:

One thing that our Lord showed me while in North Africa was that Arabs aren’t at all what is depicted on the internet and through the media; they aren’t all fanatical and hate the west. They are just normal folks trying to get by in life like most of us. I would say a majority of them are Muslim by name only, they were born Muslim and go through the motions, doing the “works” required and trying to look good on the outside. Part of the going through the motions is their call to pray at the mosques.

One Friday we were at one of the largest mosques in the world and witnessed thousands of people filing in for prayer. My heart became so heavy for a people group that seemed to be like sheep being lead to slaughter. They are truly a deceived people that need the Truth of Jesus, our risen Savior. Sharing that truth isn’t as easy or simple as it seems, finding a right balance of being bold for the name of Christ and careful enough so you are not escorted out of the country for sharing the truth is a tricky thing for ‘workers’.

The progress seems slow but great encouragement for even small victories as we know our Lord is about His Kingdom work. In one town of half a million while we were there a ‘worker’ held a Bible study with two ladies, the only known believers in the whole town. Pray for these two as it is a huge step of faith for them and the start of the Gospel spreading. God is Faithful and will accomplish His purposes; I am excited and blessed to be a small part of His work in the months and years to come.

Here are a few shots from their trip:

"The sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." (Luke 1:77-79 ESV)

"But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall." (Malachi 4:2 ESV)
