{"id":2922,"date":"2012-03-01T15:32:39","date_gmt":"2012-03-01T21:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/?p=2922"},"modified":"2012-03-01T15:32:39","modified_gmt":"2012-03-01T21:32:39","slug":"why-are-you-cast-down-o-my-soul-psalm-42-43","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/2012\/03\/why-are-you-cast-down-o-my-soul-psalm-42-43\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Why are you cast down, O my soul?&#8221; \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Psalm 42-43"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Sunday, Ryan will be back in the pulpit preaching from Psalm 42 and 43, two psalms with several familiar lines.\u00c2\u00a0For example, 42:1 reads, &#8220;As a deer pants for flowing streams,\u00c2\u00a0so pants my soul for you, O God.\u00c2\u00a0My soul thirsts for God,\u00c2\u00a0for the living God.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But if you read these two psalms together you&#8217;ll notice a refrain repeated three times, in 42:5, 42:11, and 43:5.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Why are you cast down,<br \/>\nO my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?<br \/>\nHope in God; for I shall again praise him,<br \/>\nmy salvation and my God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The psalmist asks a good question. And he gives himself a good answer. Of course, we all need to do this kind of thing.
