{"id":4853,"date":"2014-01-01T22:53:47","date_gmt":"2014-01-02T04:53:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/?p=4853"},"modified":"2014-01-01T22:53:47","modified_gmt":"2014-01-02T04:53:47","slug":"a-resolution-for-your-resolutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.desertspringschurch.org\/blog\/2014\/01\/a-resolution-for-your-resolutions\/","title":{"rendered":"A Resolution for Your Resolutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over at the newly redesigned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/\">Desiring God<\/a> site, Jon Bloom published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/blog\/posts\/your-most-courageous-resolution-for-2014\">an article<\/a> on the subject of new year&#8217;s resolutions. After unpacking briefly why resolutions are biblical and why annual resolutions are good idea, he presents a single resolution as the heart of all Christian resolve: love. Here&#8217;s a bit from his article,\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/blog\/posts\/your-most-courageous-resolution-for-2014\">Your Most Courageous Resolution in 2014<\/a>&#8220;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>. . . resolves can either be rooted in our selfish ambitions or in the love of God. We must think them through carefully. So as we make our resolutions for 2014, God wants them to all serve this one great end: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153pursue love\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (1 Corinthians 14:1).<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Pursue\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is a very purposeful word. The Greek verb has an intensity to it. It means to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153seek after eagerly,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d like a runner in a race seeks eagerly to win a prize.<\/p>\n<p>. . . Let this be the year that we\u00c2\u00a0pursue love. . . .\u00c2\u00a0Each person\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s situation is so unique that we can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t craft strategies for each other to grow in love. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s something that we must each do with God, though some feedback and counsel from those who know us best are helpful.<\/p>\n<p>But here are some of the Bible\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s great love texts to soak in during 2014 that can help loving strategies emerge:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Corinthians 13: soak in or memorize it and let each \u00e2\u20ac\u0153love is . . .\u00e2\u20ac\u009d statement in verses 4\u00e2\u20ac\u201c7 search your heart. With whom can you show greater patience, kindness, and more?<\/li>\n<li>John chapters 13\u00e2\u20ac\u201c15: soak in or memorize them. Ninety-five verses are very doable. You can memorize them in 3\u00e2\u20ac\u201c6 months and be transformed.<\/li>\n<li>The First Epistle of John: Soak in or memorize it. You can do it! Forcing yourself to say the verses over and over will yield insights you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve never seen before.<\/li>\n<li>Take 2\u00e2\u20ac\u201c4 weeks and simply meditate on the two greatest commandments according to Jesus (Matthew 22, Mark 12, Luke 10). Look and look at them and pray and pray over them. You will be surprised at what the Lord shows you.<\/li>\n<li>Read Hebrews 13:1\u00e2\u20ac\u201c7, take one verse per day and prayerfully meditate on what you might put into place to grow in each area of loving obedience.
