This post is a summary of Rick Phillips\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 message from Saturday morning at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clarusabq.com\/\">Clarus<\/a>, March 15, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Contentment Found: Jesus Saves and Satisfies,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d from John 4:10-15.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Rick Phillips began his message in giving the account of the Spanish explorer Ponce de Le\u00c3\u00b3n and his quest for the fountain of youth. De Le\u00c3\u00b3n could have saved much time and effort by simply opening the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Phillips\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 primary text from John 4 focused on the interaction between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well and their discussion of living water.\u00c2\u00a0 This well-known account from the gospel of John shows that there is a fountain of satisfaction and eternal life, but it is not found in the well itself; it is found in the man who sat on the well \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the Lord Jesus.\u00c2\u00a0 Jesus reveals himself to the Samaritan woman as the fountain of living water, and that this fountain is available to all who will come and drink.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Gospel Offer in Jesus\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Offer of Living Water<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Pastor Phillips explained that Jesus summarizes the gospel in two simple points as he makes this offer of living water to the woman.<\/p>\n<p>1) Jesus says to her, <em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153If you knew the gift of God\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em> He says to her that she needs to know the gift of God, which is life! Eternal life!\u00c2\u00a0 Jesus focuses her on truth that God is the giver of life, and that he offers life as a gift.<\/p>\n<p>2) Jesus also explains the simple gospel as Himself.\u00c2\u00a0 He says to her, <em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153If you knew who it is who says to you\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 Jesus tells her that she needs to know him, and that he himself is the giver of this living water.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus offers her life in himself and says, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If you would ask, I would give it to you!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><b>A Revealing Response to His Offer<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Like many through the ages, this Samaritan woman was spiritually unable to see and understand.\u00c2\u00a0 She was thinking only in physical terms.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153[Jesus] was speaking of salvation, and she was thinking plumbing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201c believing that Jesus lacked the ability to give her what she needed. And unfortunately many of us think similar thoughts about him today.<\/p>\n<p>But Jesus tells this woman, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Everyone who drinks this water will thirst again.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 Pastor Phillips said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Thirst is one of the strongest cravings we have, and thirst will torment you until you are satisfied.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 Jesus wanted this woman to know that our souls thirst for the living water that only He provides, and our souls will never be satisfied until they are content in Him.<\/p>\n<p><b>Three Things Surrounding Jesus\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Offer<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1)\u00c2\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A Condition<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Whoever drinks.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 The condition of receiving and being satisfied by this living water is faith, but this faith is more than just receiving; it is also yielding.\u00c2\u00a0 It is trusting in Jesus as savior and lord. It is coming to him on his terms.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00c2\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A Consequence<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Whoever drinks\u00e2\u20ac\u009d will be satisfied and have this life.\u00c2\u00a0 This does not mean a trouble-free life, but contentment in our souls.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00c2\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A Change<\/span> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The result of drinking is being born again to new life.\u00c2\u00a0 It is real life in Jesus and real satisfaction!<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Phillips concluded by saying that for those who have not tasted this life-giving water, they simply need to hear from Christians who Jesus is!\u00c2\u00a0 He also said of those who have tasted this living water, but are still discontent may be so because <em>(1)<\/em> they are too close to the world \u00e2\u20ac\u201c seeking satisfaction again in things that don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t satisfy; <em>(2)<\/em> they may be stopping up the flow of the Holy Spirit because of besetting sin rather than fighting sin daily in the grace of Christ; and <em>(3)<\/em> they may be neglecting God\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Word.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh, that we would tell others of this Savior and his life-giving water, and that we ourselves would be satisfied only in Him!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Note:\u00c2\u00a0Tim Bradley is Pastor for Biblical Counseling and Family Ministry at\u00c2\u00a0Desert Springs Church\u00c2\u00a0in Albuquerque, NM.
