Guatemala Mission Update #6 and Testimony “They’re Home!”

2014 | by Clint | Category: Field Updates,Global,Rabinal Achi,Trips,Uncategorized

The team is back and so grateful to Jesus and his bride at DSC for sending them out in a manner worthy of God.  There will be more reports from the team as they settle back into life here in America, like this one from Drew Hodge.

As a new element to our Rabinal Achi partnership, worship minister Drew Hodge and a team of musicians and vocalists from DSC hosted worship workshops and a worship concert last week in central Guatemala.  Here’s a note from Drew to the DSC body…

Dear brothers and sisters of Desert Springs,

Greetings from Guatemala! I thank God for you and your love for Him and His church. Thank you for your giving, your prayers, and encouragement. We have had a blast! Doing music in a different culture and language is always challenging but so rewarding. Working along side our Achi brothers and sister was such a blessing. While we spoke different languages, music served as way to break through that barrier. I went to serve through music and left as the one who was served. Served by their music, love for God and love for each other.

I got to spend a lot of time with one young worship leader, Marvin Rodriguez. He spoke very little English and I spoke less Spanish but we could still communicate through song. As we sang in English, Spanish and Achi,  “Every tribe and tongue” was the chorus on repeat in my head. Impromptu bilingual guitar lessons(without a translator), jam sessions, singing hymns(in English and Spanish at the same time) were a few of the ways we were able to challenge and encourage each other.

Two of the nights, my music team worked with local praise team members in a worship workshop. In small groups by instrument, we worked on the basics of the instruments, how they fit and serve the music and support the truth we sing. The kids were excited, teachable, and talented! They we watching, listening and playing right along. They love music, they love God and they are excited about His praise! We went to teach and left being taught! I am thankful to God for this opportunity to have my view of Him and His worship broadened and deepened. He is great and greatly to be praise and I repent for ever thinking I could do that on my own. He is drawing people all over the world to Himself and it will be a colorful, diverse, bilingual, loud, and glorious choir for all of eternity, and I can’t wait!

And our partner, Achi minister Hector Hernandez sent the following note as well:

Dears brothers and sisters,

We have had a great ministry time!

I have seen how God has touched the people and they have been broken in their heart. Its special.  About the music workshop, it has been very good, our youth are very encouraged and happy receiving the workshop.

God bless you!
