Money & Me “Train the Trainer” Session

2016 | by Clint | Category: Giving Opportunity,Local,Love INC,Training

Hear from Steve Denning, our Love, Inc. liaison, about the upcoming Train the Trainer session for Money and Me:

Jesus said in Mark 14:7 “For you always have the poor with you and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me.” He was of course focusing his disciples attention on himself and his death to come. But in the process Jesus reminds them (like Deuteronomy 15:11 does too) that poverty will be an ongoing problem and that we as his followers are to “do good to them.” Living in New Mexico we are constantly reminded by the news how poor the State is so that means we have a large opportunity.

One of our partner ministries has a program to address some of the issues of poverty by providing instruction to low income people about money management through its Money and ME Workshop. Many people with low income have never received good counsel about managing money and consequently make bad decisions. Money and ME provides tools and information through a six hour workshop aimed specifically at this target population to help them learn to budget, start saving money and pay off debt. It does this in a comfortable and safe environment and also gives us the chance to share the love of the Lord with them when DSC hosts a workshop.

Money and ME was developed by the Executive Director of Love INC in Albuquerque, Sara Money, over a 3 year period. The success of the workshops depend upon have well trained instructors, facilitators and mentors. We have several DSC members that have already gone through the training to learn the unique language and cultural sensitivity as well as how to present a workshop but we have only begun to reach out to our low income neighbors.

The next Train the Trainer session for Money and ME will be held on January 23rd. We would like to host another Money and ME workshop soon and can always use more people to be mentors, facilitators and trainers. If you would like to join our team of Money and ME volunteers we highly recommend this training for you.

June 2015 Achi Pastors Training Day 1

2015 | by Clint | Category: Global,Prayer,Rabinal Achi,Training

On Sunday night Pastor Clint and a few other DSC members shared dinner with over 70 church leaders. Clint writes:

Monday morning we began this our second pastoral training among the Achi pastors in 2015.

The topic of this training is the local church.

1. The marks of the true church.

2. The marks of the healthy church.

3. The purpose of the local church (worship, community and mission).

Here are some photos from today:

DSC member Brett Landis teaches on the nature, importance of, and elements of worship in the local church. Think ‘adoration of God in Christ through all of life and belief in response to the gospel.’

Dr. David Sills from Southern Seminary and Reaching and Teaching Ministries teaches the marks of the true church.

Please continue to pray for these 50+ pastors and other 20+ church leaders. We pray that their understanding of the nature and purpose of the local church will grow through this teaching and that they will be encouraged in their ministries by God’s Spirit, through God’s Word.
