Sunrise North Africa Partnership (SNAP) Update – September 2012

2012 | by Clint | Category: Church Planting,Global,North Africa (SNAP)

SNAP is our core missions initiative to send church planters to North Africa. Our prayer is that God will use DSC’s time, talent, and treasure to make for Himself worshipers and disciples in North Africa who will meet together and bear witness to His grace among their friends and family. This will be a long road for our church, but we are in this for the long haul. Here are some of the latest happenings with the SNAP team.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8

Are you supporting these church planting efforts?  Want to start giving now?  Please pray for these two families slated to leave in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

The SNAP Team writes:

A Trip to The Vine

We recently returned from a weekend trip to visit Zach Nielsen’s church plant, The Vine, in Madison, Wisconsin. They are excited about joining us in church planting in North Africa. We are not sure what their role will be at this time, but their desire as a church is to raise up a family from their body to join us in sharing the Gospel to unreached Muslims. We were able to cast vision to the church about unreached people groups, churches sending out missionaries, and how to be involved in mission work.

Over the past month, Muslims across the world took part in the holy month of Ramadan. Many folks at DSC prayed throughout the 30 days for God to draw more Muslims to himself during this time of heightened spirituality. Please continue to pray for missionaries who work among these people. Ask that God would use them to proclaim His gospel in the context of their growing relationships.

Upcoming Vision Trip

In October, we will be going on another vision trip to North Africa. The goal is to visit potential cities to live in, meet other workers in the field, and cast vision to the folks who will be joining us on the trip.  We will be joined on this trip by DSC’s old worship pastor, Zach, one of his co-pastors from The Vine, and Carlos Griego, the pastor at DSC’s church plant, Redemption Church.  More details to come on this upcoming trip!

Training and Planning

Both SNAP couples are wrapping up the Basics of Biblical Counseling class under Pastor Tim Bradley. They are also developing training for this Fall and next year in language acquisition, Islamics, Church Planting, and Missionary life.  Please continue to pray for the SNAP team as they serve our church locally and serve international students here, all with an eye for planting churches in North Africa in the future.

The first SNAP couple is slated to leave for France in early 2014 to study language, then to North Africa later that year. The second SNAP couple is headed to France, Lord willing, in early 2015. These approaching dates represent both high costs for them as families and for us as a church – costs of distance, finances, and relational closeness. All of these sacrifices are worth the sake of God’s fame growing among the nations where He is not being honored as He should.

Finally, here’s a heads up for Missions Emphasis Sunday (October 21).  We will have a guest preacher from Arab World Media (AWM) as well as testimony from our dear friends Dr. Jacobo and Jannette Pineda from Guatemala as they share their stories from the front lines of this global mission.  Stay tuned for more details.
