Money and Me Ministry Update

2013 | by Clint | Category: Christmas Store,Local,Love INC

Desert Springs Church opened its doors Thursday (Feb 7) night and Saturday (Feb 9) to welcome 30 adults and some of their children to participate in a money management training created by Love INC of Albuquerque.

In attendance were DSC members, community neighbors that came to the DSC Christmas Store and residents of A Peaceful Habitation (one of DSC’s strategic local missions partners). In the six hours of learning God’s instructions relating to finances, all of those present shared the challenges we face in being good stewards of God’s resources. Surveys received at the end of the training indicate that everyone was excited to adopt the new strategies presented to better manage their finances and reduce their debt.

One attendee commented:

“I am very excited to start the entire program. I will start with the envelope system first. Thank you. We felt very welcomed and any questions we had were addressed very clearly. We were all addressed as a group, community with nobody being singled out. I would like for my daughter to attend soon along with family members and friends. I would like to have a mentor.”

A number of DSC folks including members of three Community Groups (Cook, Gilmore and Landis) provided food, hospitality and childcare which contributed to the warmth felt by all who attended.

Gayle R. DSC’s financial administrator helped out with the evening as well and gives the following testimony:

“The community groups that helped with the Love Inc. Money and Me training this past weekend were a huge blessing to observe.  Fresh food was prepared and constantly being re-stocked and served.  People who sat through the training were treated with kindness and love.  Childcare was offered and the workers were so sweet and kind with the kids.  My own child was part of the childcare and she was very blessed by the people who served.  Everyone came together and served in a way that was well-organized and Christ-like.  It was such a blessing to be around the people serving Jesus (by serving others) in these community groups.”
