Walk and/or Sign: Just Two of Many Ways to Love the Unborn and Their Families

Care Net Pregnancy Centers’ Walk for Life – September 14th

As believers, we should seek to love folks in difficult situations.  Care Net Pregnancy Centers of Albuqueurque seeks to meet people where they are at in the midst of a tornado of emotion, fear, and misunderstanding.  They seek to offer counsel and parenting help, as well as ultrasounds and Walk 4 Life no yearpregnancy tests to folks with unexpected pregnancies.  Finally, they seek to offer education and alternatives to the “easy to abort” approach given at other institutions.

Each year Car Net has their “Walk for Life” event to raise funds for their operations.  For this “Walk for Life,” participants must register, then collect pledges from friends, family, neighbors, and then walk… That’s it.  Care Net bills your sponsors so you don’t have to collect the funds.  It is a great opportunity to bring awareness and support to one of our Local Mission strategic partnerships.  Click here to find out more and to get involved.

Consider Signing a Petition to get the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance” on a voting ballot this year.

Another approach to helping these folks is through the political process.  We usually and intentionally steer clear of taking specific political stances on issues because we believe the churches role is to make disciples of Christ, not disciples of political parties.  However, we do want to make everyone who reads this blog aware of a proposed ordinance in Albuquerque to make abortions after 20 weeks of gestation illegal.  The ordinance is called “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance” and is based on medical research that suggests that babies feel, recognize, and react to pain.  You can read up on the ordinance, and find out how to sign the petition here.  Their goal is 15,000 signatures by July 25th.

Abortion is a deadly act and a complicated issue.  The situations, circumstances, and dynamics involved can be tragic and difficult to understand.  But as Christians we believe that life begins at conception, and that this life is worth protecting through law, even as we seek to know, serve and love the parents through natural relational proximity and through organizations like Care Net.  May God give us wisdom and compassion as we seek to love parents and children in the name of Christ, with the Gospel of peace on our lips at all times.
