International Student 2013 Thanksgiving Dinner Recap

2013 | by Clint | Category: Global,Iternational Students Incorporated,Local

On November 24th, DSC hosted our 6th ISI Thanksgiving dinner in a row.  It has become a great tradition for sharing good food, good entertainment, and good conversation with students that come from all ends of the Earth.

Check out this note from ISI Thanksgiving Dinner organizer, Deacon Adam Church:

As with every year, Charis and I are humbled and honored by your faithful service at the International Student Thanksgiving Dinner! This year we had the possibility of bad weather, but in God’s providence things cleared up and we had a great dinner. The food was great, and things went off without a hitch. We could not have done it without all of you, so thanks so much for your help!

This year, we had between 80-90 students attend the dinner, which was a bit smaller due to weather, but still a great turn out that gave the dinner a bit more of an intimate feel. As with every year, feeding that many people isn’t an easy feat, and requires 7 turkeys, 6 pans each of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing and green beans, as well as 14 pumpkin pies, not to mention salad, cranberry sauce and a few other items.

We saw a lot of great conversation and fellowship taking place, and a lot of people exchanging numbers and building bridges for future relationships. One woman who attended the dinner sent us a note saying:

“Thank you very much to you and to everyone involved in offering Thanksgiving Dinner, it was really GREAT!!! Starting with a spectacular group of musicians and so, so delicious and abundant food.”

In addition, the director of International Students Inc. attended the dinner, and sent a note of thanks as well:

“The Desert Springs dinner was a true delight.  Everybody was so warm and friendly.  The musicians at the beginning were amazing as were the servers and hosts.  Students were truly touched by the beauty of the evening and the love they experienced from the volunteers. At least 2 new relationships were kindled that led to spiritual discussions and ongoing relationships. As students experienced the love from Christian volunteers they are moved closer to a relationship with our Savior.”

We hope you will continue to pray for these students:

  • That God will work in their hearts, to convict of sin and show His grace displayed in Christ.
  • That they will have many more opportunities to see the Gospel on display.
  • That as He wills, International Students would come to faith in Christ and return to their homes with the Gospel message.

Thanks again for your gracious service.

In Christ,  Adam + Charis Church
