ISI Thanksgiving – November 23rd! Needs Your Help!

Adam and Charis have coordinated the ISI Dinner for several years in a row now and they need your help!

Charis writes:

Hi Everyone,

It’s time once again for DSC to host an International Student Thanksgiving Dinner.

We will be having the dinner on Sunday, November 23, from 6 – 8 PM.

Would you prayerfully consider helping us in one of the following ways this year?

We feed around 100 students at these dinners, so supplying food for the dinner is one of biggest areas in which you can serve. Some of these food items are hot dishes (turkey, mashed potatoes, etc.) and some are items that can be purchased (whipped cream, butter, etc.). For hot food, we will provide a simple recipe and a metal pan to bring the food to the church in.

There will be food signups in the DSC kitchen next Sunday (11/16), but we’d also love to get as many people as possible signed up for food items in advance of next week. The food items we need are listed below. To sign up, pick whatever items you’d like to help with and email me with what you’d like to bring. Then this Sunday you can swing by the DSC kitchen to pick up pans and recipes.

We will be in touch with more details closer to the dinner, but in general, hot food will need to be brought to the church by 5:30 PM on the 18th, and cold food can be left on Sunday morning, but no sooner than that due to fridge space.

Food List:

  • Turkey:  6 turkeys (deboned and brought in a pan)
  • Stuffing: 3 pansSweet Potatoes:7 pans
  • Mashed Potatoes:  2 pans
  • Gravy: 4 crock pots
  • Salad: 2 pans & a bottle of dressing (per pan)
  • Cranberry Sauce: 3 pans (either can be homemade in a pan, or just 3 cans of store bought cranberry sauce)
  • Pumpkin Pie: 8 large pies from Costco/Sam’s

Another way you can help is by volunteering to help out at the dinner. We have a number of volunteer teams, including:

  • Setup: Help with setting up for the dinner, including setting up tables, decorating, organizing food, etc. Setup begins at 4 PM. Need about 12 people.
  • Hospitality: Greet students as they arrive, hand out raffle tickets, socialize with students. During the dinner, this team will be in charge of making sure the buffet line is stocked, bringing pitchers of water around for refills, clearing plates and serving dessert. Need about 12 people.
  • Table Hosts: If you have an interest and passion to engage directly with the students, hosting a table is a great way to help out. For each table, there will be 2 hosts also seated with the students. Your job is to simply enjoy the dinner with the students at your table, make new friendships and be open to answering questions about why we celebrate Thanksgiving and the gospel if an opening arises. This is a great opportunity for spouses to serve together. 22-24 people needed as table hosts.
  • Cleanup: Tear down and clean up the church after the dinner ends around 8 PM. 10 people needed for cleanup.

If you are able to volunteer and help out with dinner and either setup or cleanup as well, that would be appreciated!

If you’d like to help out as a volunteer, just email me  to let me know how you’d like to help!

Thanks so much for your support and help with this dinner. It was a great success last year, and we look forward to ministering to International Students again this year!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Adam.
